KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday that a relative has been arrested in connection with the non-fatal shooting of Vusumuzi Sangweni – the uncle of Bafana Bafana soccer star Siyabonga Sangweni, not his father as stated by Orlando Pirates administrator Floyd Mbele on Friday.
"A 25-year-old man will appear in court on Monday," police captain Thulani Zwane said.
The man arrested is related to Sangweni's uncle, but police will not release his name until he has appeared in court.
The Star newspaper has reported that the arrested man is AmaZulu goalkeeper Mandla Sangweni, Vusumuzi's nephew and Siyabonga Sangweni's brother.
Zwane said the motive is not yet known, but the Star reported that Nono Sangweni, the daughter of the injured 66-year-old man, said an argument about witchcraft had caused the altercation.
Vusumuzi Sangweni remained in hospital after he was shot and wounded near KwaMbonambi on Friday. – Sapa
