From 1 April to 5 May, the levy on petrol will drop from R4.10/litre to R1.10/litre and on diesel from R3.93/litre to R0.93/litre, while other levies, including the Road Accident Fund and Carbon Fuel Levy, remain unchanged.
The price of all grades of petrol will increase by 39 cents, and all grades of diesel by 24.2 cents a litre on Wednesday, the energy department said.
The price of illuminating paraffin would increase by between 12 and 16c/l, while the maximum retail price of LP gas would go up by 54c/l, the department said in a statement on Friday.
The increase was due to a slight rise in international petrol product prices. "The average rand/US dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period," the department said.
The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period December 27 2013 to January 30 2014 was 10.8 compared to 10.3 during the previous period. – Sapa
