The IPM conference is the biggest HR event in South Africa, where HR professionals have a chance to focus on their own learning and development and to connect with others, enabling them to drive their businesses forward with gusto.
It has been attracting delegates and speakers from across the continent and globally since 1956.
This year’s event included leaders and experts from a wide range of organisations, sectors and sizes.
The IPM annual convention was held at Sun City, North West province from November 9 to 12 2014.
The theme of this year’s convention was “human capital, leading the future — creating value for your organisation”.
This year’s programme is based on research into key trends outlined in leading academic sources such McKinsey Quarterly and others.
Today’s organisations:
Face challenges ranging from dealing with the next phase of globalisation to technological change and continued macro-economic uncertainty;
Need to understand that context is a critical component that impacts on how we do business;
Realise that identifying key leadership qualities is a fundamental strategic imperative that impacts on organisational success;
Appreciate the need to develop organisational resilience in a world where global emergencies seem to erupt at ever-shorter intervals.
In his book Great by Choice, Jim Collins notes that some companies and leaders navigate this type of world exceptionally well. This is what the 2014 IPM annual convention aimed to achieve.
Research has shown that greatness is achieved in organisations where HR leads courageously — hence the choice of this year’s theme. In this spirit, the convention is also the backdrop for the prestigious annual excellence awards, recognising and rewarding excellence in people leadership.
