SmartMobile specialises in providing cellular services and handsets to the emerging post-paid market in South Africa.
Mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) use the infrastructure of other mobile networks to sell their services, with SmartMobile offering the service using Cell C’s infrastructure.
SmartMobile is a part of iSmart, which in turn is a part of the Digicall Group.
iSmart also consists of SmartCover: Insurance and value added services to a similar consumer base SmartData: provides consumer data, and Smart Communication: provides cost effective VOIP telco communication solutions to the SME market.
The call rate on the new SmartMobile MVNO plan is 99 cents a minute, on any network, at any time. There are various bundled options covering both mobile handsets and tablets, catering to a variety of consumers’ requirements. Consumers are able to top up their airtime, just like any other prepaid offering.
SmartMobile has been operational in the mobile environment for over 10 years, and has activated over 600 000 clients.
Andre Geboers, the company’s chief executive, said that “the first SmartMobile contracts were sold through an outbound call centre this morning.”
Although initially all business will be channeled through outbound call centres, there is potential for a retail presence at a later stage.
SmartMobile plans to differentiate itself through consistently high customer service levels, providing value for money, and exceeding clients’ expectations.
Geboers added “We provide quality handsets, we drive innovation, and we are completely transparent regarding our rates and packages, with no hidden costs.”
