Arts And Culture – Tebogo Lebanna

Organiser of the Little Miss Princess World Botswana
Tebogo Lebanna raised Botswana’s flag high on June 27 this year in Bulgaria when three of her young protégés scooped titles at the Little Miss Princess of the World pageant.

Among the title winners was Tshephang Khan, who swept away the competition, which was represented by 85 other young girls from around the world, and was crowned the Little Miss Princess of the World.

The Little Miss Princess of the World pageant is aimed at promoting culture, tourism, love and friendship among children, and is open to girls from 10 to 14 years of age.

It was a dream come true for the event organiser, Lebanna, who has had a life-long ambition to groom girls for international pageants. Winning the crown this year was particularly spe- cial, since 2016 marks Botswana’s 50th year of independence.

Passionate about self-empowerment, Lebanna says the Little Miss Princess World Botswana is a na- tional pageant that aims to prepare young girls at an early age for bigger pageants, such as Miss World and Miss Universe.

For a small nation like Botswana where children’s pageants have not yet gained popularity, this is a remarkable achievement that was a result of hard work, dedication and a determination to excel.

Lebanna has been organising the pageant for only two years and already has attained the world crown.

A 3rd year degree student at the Botswana Accountancy College, Lebanna is no stranger to beauty pageants. She was a Miss Earth Botswana 2012 finalist, second runner up for Miss Tourism Botswana 2013, and Miss Grand International Botswana.

Lebanna says she decided to groom young girls for the international stage after realising that ladies in Botswana only start entering beauty competitions when they are around 20 years of age. Exposing girls to the outside world at an early age gives them confidence, and it builds the self-esteem and presentation skills needed for bigger international pageants.

She is excited about grooming the next batch of girls. Lebanna believes that the current Little Miss Princess of the World will share her knowledge and experience with other aspiring beauty queens.
