Zimbabwean rapped for impersonating Grace Mugabe

A woman who tried to enrol at a nursing school by impersonating the wife of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe was on Thursday sentenced to 420 hours of community service by a Harare court. Rosemary Chakacha (24) phoned a matron at a Harare hospital on September 13 last year, saying she was Grace Mugabe and that she was sending two girls to be enrolled immediately.

Mittal Steel to seek strike interdict

Mittal Steel is to ask the Labour Court in Johannesburg on Friday for an order interdicting members of labour union Solidarity from going on a pay strike. Documents to this effect were filed with the court on Wednesday, said the company’s spokesperson Tami Didiza. Arguments are to be heard on Friday.

Brothel Cinderella attracts a red light

Cinderella may have been down on her luck, but no one expected her to show up in the red light district. Least of all the descendants of Sergei Prokofiev. They are so incensed at a Latvian production of the Russian composer’s ballet that they have forced the show to close by refusing rights to use the music.

CCMA staff mull whether to strike

The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has not succeeded in negotiations with their staff over a wage dispute. According to a statement on Wednesday, the Commission Staff Association is preparing to poll its membership on whether to strike, following the deadlock in salary negotiations.
