Pichot slams state of Argentinian rugby

Former Argentina captain Agustin Pichot slammed his federation chiefs on Friday declaring that the domestic scene was a disgrace. The 33-year-old scrumhalf told Argentine daily La Nacion he could not believe the manner in which the federation chiefs were dealing with the question over making the domestic game professional.

Sevens seeks to ride World Cup wave

Rugby Sevens, the abbreviated form of rugby union, is seeking to ride the wave of popularity in the sport generated by the highly successful World Cup in France. The three-day season-opening Dubai leg of the World Series Sevens circuit attracted 32 000 spectators a day, but importantly offered a showcase for many future international stars.

Bad blood overshadows France-Argentina play-off

France and Argentina clash on Friday in a World Cup third place play-off overshadowed by simmering French resentment at their opening night shock defeat to the Pumas five weeks ago. Are the Pumas baiting the Boks?

How much do Argentina have left in the tank? The answer should be clear in the second half of a ferocious forwards clash between the Pumas and South Africa on Sunday. Cracks appeared among the Pumas last Sunday when they let slip a 19-6 lead around the hour mark to give Scotland a sniff at victory. Pumas and Boks turn up volume of insults

Argentina and South Africa have pumped up the volume in a war of words ahead of their World Cup semifinal on Sunday by exchanging mutual insults. Pumas full-back Ignacio Corleto blasted the 1995 champions as ”arrogant” while Springboks scrumhalf Fourie du Preez claimed opposite number Agustin Pichot was ”irritating”.

Argentina struggle to beat battling Georgia

Argentina closed in on the World Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday with a 33-3 win over a battling Georgia side, which was topped-off by a last-minute try that guaranteed a crucial bonus point. However, the eastern European side won plenty of new fans when they held the Pumas, who shocked France in the opening game, to just 6-3 at the interval.

Argentina stymie France in Cup opener


Argentina created one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history by beating host nation France 17-12 at Stade Francais on Friday night. In front of a full house at Saint Denis France froze in the headlights and produced a string of errors suggesting that they will not be the force some had expected in the showpiece event.
