The first Standard Bank Pro20 semifinal bubbled and fizzed on Friday night as the Dolphins produced a powerful performance to defeat the Diamond Eagles by five wickets at Kingsmead. It was an amazing turnaround by the Dolphins, who were crushed by ten wickets when the two teams met earlier in the competition.
A spate of wide deliveries by the Dolphins — there were 19 extras amongst the first 22 runs — did much for the cause of the Eagles as they came back to snatch victory by three wickets in their MTN domestic championship cricket match at Kingsmead on Friday night.
A weakened Dolphins cricket side, including a player fresh out of school, has been named for the key away fixtures against the Titans and the Eagles in the Supersport Series over the next two weekends. The Dolphins, currently in second spot, ended the 2007 half of the season on a dismal note as their batting collapsed.

Responsible batting by the Dolphins enabled them to end the second day’s play in their SuperSport Series match against the Warriors in East London 206 runs ahead with two wickets in hand on Friday. In Benoni, the Diamond Eagles’ Pieter Koortzen struck his eighth first-class 100 in their SuperSport match against the Titans.
