Dolphins trounce Eagles in Pro20 semifinal

The first Standard Bank Pro20 semifinal bubbled and fizzed on Friday night as the Dolphins produced a powerful performance to defeat the Diamond Eagles by five wickets at Kingsmead. It was an amazing turnaround by the Dolphins, who were crushed by ten wickets when the two teams met earlier in the competition.

Confident Warriors make it to the final

The Warriors will contest the final of the MTN Domestic Championship after a comprehensive 42-run victory over the Eagles in the first of the two semifinals at Buffalo Park in East London on Friday. They now need to wait until Sunday to see whether they will play the Titans or the Cape Cobras on Wednesday in the final.

Agogo sends Ghana into semifinals

Junior Agogo scored a late goal on Sunday to lead 10-man Ghana over Nigeria 2-1 and into the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals. Agogo met Sulley Muntari’s cross from the left and sent the ball into the roof of the net in the 83rd minute to send the Black Stars into a showdown with either Cameroon or Tunisia on Thursday.

Eagles prove they are the champions

The Diamond Eagles proved with their victory of 82 runs over the Dolphins at the Outsurance Oval in Bloemfontein on Saturday that they are the SuperSport Series cricket champions for the 2007/08 season. It was the central franchise’s sixth trophy out of a possible 11 since the franchise system was introduced.

Titans in command in Bloemfontein

The Titans commanded the second day’s play of their SuperSport Series match against the Eagles as they extended their lead to 359 runs at the close of play at the OUTsurance Oval in Bloemfontein on Friday. In Paarl, the Cobras reached 228/3 at stumps on day two in reply to the Warriors’ 346 all out earlier in the day.

Elephants trample Eagles in George

In a shock result in a Currie Cup first-division game at Outeniqua Park in George on Saturday, the Eastern Province Mighty Elephants sprang a surprise when they defeated the Eagles 34-17. In Wellington, Griquas beat the Boland Cavaliers 57-22, and the Lions outplayed the Valke 61-30 in Johannesburg.
