American Jim Furyk eagled the first play-off hole on Wednesday to defeat Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and win the 26th PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
For someone who’s on top of the world, Trevor Immelman has lately spent a lot of time looking up. One day after becoming the Masters champion, Immelman was courtside at Madison Square Garden for the Boston Celtics’ 99-93 victory over the New York Knicks.
Australian Geoff Ogilvy parred his final nine holes on Monday, including a crucial chip-in at the 13th, to win the World Golf Championships CA Championship and end Tiger Woods’s seven-tournament win streak. Darkness halted Sunday’s storm-interrupted final round with Ogilvy needing to finish the back nine and Woods five off the pace with seven to play.
Lightning halted the final round of the World Golf Championships CA Championship in Florida on Sunday with Australian Geoff Ogilvy leading by four strokes with 16 holes to play and Tiger Woods five back. Woods opened the final round of the -million event with a pair of birdies.

Ernie Els was the biggest name to fall by the wayside as twice winner Tiger Woods conjured a miraculous escape at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship on Wednesday. Woods came from three down with five holes to play for a one-up victory over fellow American JB Holmes but fourth seed Els was hammered 6&5 by Jonathan Byrd.

As much as golf looked the same in 2007, some of the greatest triumphs were long overdue. Until a dramatic and calamitous Sunday on the cruel links of Carnoustie, the only time Padraig Harrington had reason to wave the Irish flag was during the Ryder Cup or perhaps a World Cup.

A terrific duel between Justin Rose of England and South Africa’s Trevor Immelman at the Nedbank Golf Challenge continued at the Gary Player Country Club on Saturday. Both players scored five-under-par 67s to share the 54-hole lead on 16-under-par 200.

Justin Rose of England fired a seven-under-par 65 on Friday, which equalled the day’s best round, while South Africa’s Trevor Immelman signed for a 66 as the pair shared the second-round lead on 11-under 133 in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Heavy mid-morning rain before play started softened the Gary Player Country Club course.

This weekend’s Nedbank Golf Challenge has already made the headlines, but it is likely to be remembered mostly for the late withdrawals by big-name stars. United States Open winner Angel Cabrera forced a play-off with an 18th-hole eagle, then birdied the third extra hole on Wednesday to beat Irishman Padraig Harrington and capture the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. American Woody Austin twice ended up in water, first with his ball and then comically on his stomach, while playing the par-four 14th in Friday’s foursomes matches at the Presidents Cup. Although he and partner David Toms lost the hole to Internationals duo Rory Sabbatini and Trevor Immelman, he ended his round with three consecutive birdies to halve the match.

Three tense last-hole foursomes triumphs on Thursday sparked the United States to a 5½ to ½ edge over the Internationals at the Presidents Cup, matching the largest first-session lead in its history. The Americans nabbed the biggest first-session edge since they grabbed 5-0 leads on their way to victories over their non-European rivals in 1994 and 2000.
