Govt addressing concerns on security of SA passports

The Cabinet has given the assurance that everything possible is being done to address the British government’s concerns about the security of South African passports. ”South African passports are among the safest … in the world, and that’s the reason why they are being targeted,” government communications head Themba Maseko said on Thursday.

Senior home affairs officials suspended

The Department of Home Affairs has suspended two of its senior officials, including a former acting director general. Chief financial officer Pat Nkambule and the deputy director general of civic services, Joel Chavalala — who once acted as director general — were suspended with immediate effect on Monday.

Temporary SA residence for Zim refugees?

The government needs to adopt a new approach to deal with Zimbabwean citizens flocking into South Africa, Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said on Tuesday. The South African Broadcasting Corporation reported her as saying one solution could be to provide them with temporary residence permits.
