Gauteng chairperson, Mike Moriarty, says the party needs stability, not controversy, at its helm
The DA’s chief whip in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature denies reports that he is a possible contender for the position of leader of the party.
Two DA members have been nominated as the party’s Gauteng leader and national spokesperson Mmusi Maimane is not on the list.
Mike Moriarty is to step down as Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus leader in Johannesburg to make himself available for nomination as a member of the province’s legislature in next year’s parliamentary election, the party said on Wednesday. Moriarty would leave his current post on September 1.

The Kliptown Concerned Residents group on Wednesday took the media on a tour of the area to highlight the damage caused by recent heavy rains. Organiser Sipho Jantjie said the settlement in Kliptown had no electricity and used the bucket system. As the media walked around the settlement, raw sewage was seen flowing out of a manhole.
There has been no improvement in overall service quality in the City of Johannesburg, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said on Thursday. No significant improvement had been seen in respect of billing, housing, the metro police, the council call centre and the metro buses, said the DA’s Mike Moriarty when presenting the party’s annual report card.
