Outrage mounted on Tuesday over an attack on a young woman at the Noord Street taxi rank in Johannesburg for wearing a miniskirt. Nwabisa Ngcukana (25) was humiliated when taxi drivers and hawkers at the rank tore off her clothes and said she was being taught a lesson for wearing a miniskirt.

A ”wish list” of proposals that could improve service delivery has been sent to the Gauteng premier, the Democratic Alliance said on Thursday. Spokesperson and member of the provincial legislature Jack Bloom compiled the list. It has been sent to Premier Mbhazima Shilowa, and includes the actions Bloom believes would improve service delivery.

An attempt to get the principle of gender parity elevated to the top structures of the ANC was trounced on Monday night, the Mail & Guardian has learned.
The policy, also known as the 50/50 principle, is a steep change in empowerment in the ANC and requires that every alternative position available for leadership be reserved for a female candidate.

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng has nominated Gauteng finance minister Paul Mashatile for provincial chairperson, the league said on Monday. At an extended meeting of its provincial executive committee, the ANCYL agreed on a set of broad characteristics for the collective leadership.

The Gauteng housing department plans to fast-track housing delivery over the next two years, housing minister Nomvula Mokonyane announced on Thursday. Members of the Vukuzenzele Crisis Committee in Alexandra on Tuesday occupied a construction site in the northern Johannesburg township to protest against a lack of service delivery and housing. The committee’s chairperson, Frieda Dlamini, told the Mail & Guardian Online that people are desperate for houses.
