For someone who’s on top of the world, Trevor Immelman has lately spent a lot of time looking up. One day after becoming the Masters champion, Immelman was courtside at Madison Square Garden for the Boston Celtics’ 99-93 victory over the New York Knicks.
Trevor Immelman emerged as the halfway leader at the Masters on Friday as Tiger Woods used an incredible finish to keep alive his bid for a fifth Augusta crown. Immelman, who has had an arduous recovery from surgery, birdied 17 and 18 en route to his second straight 68 and an eight-under total of 136.

Tiger Woods needed 20 holes to subdue Australian Aaron Baddeley on Friday and reach the quarterfinals of the -million WGC Accenture Match-Play Championship. It was the second hard-fought win in three days for Woods, who avoided a first-round upset on Wednesday.

Ernie Els was the biggest name to fall by the wayside as twice winner Tiger Woods conjured a miraculous escape at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship on Wednesday. Woods came from three down with five holes to play for a one-up victory over fellow American JB Holmes but fourth seed Els was hammered 6&5 by Jonathan Byrd.

Swede Johan Edfors shot a scintillating six-under-par 66 to take a two-shot lead going into the third round at the ,5-million Qatar Masters on Friday. South African Charl Schwartzel, who was on two-under at the end of the first round, picked up five shots in a flawless round of 67.

Ernie Els of South Africa remained on course for a seventh world match-play championship, with a six and five victory over Andres Romero of Argentina at Wentworth that booked a semifinal confrontation on Saturday with Henrik Stenson of Sweden. ”I played well when I needed to,” Els said.
