Jacquelin takes charge as Els lurks in India

Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin grabbed a one-shot lead at a blustery Indian Masters on Saturday, with Ernie Els lurking dangerously four behind after posting the best score of the day. Jacquelin, who last tasted a European Tour victory at the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai last April, mixed an eagle and a birdie with three bogeys for an even par 72 on a day that saw the lead see-saw.

McGrane takes charge in India as Els makes amends

Northern Ireland’s Damien McGrane stroked a majestic 69 to take a two-shot lead at the Indian Masters on Friday as Ernie Els made amends for his disastrous opening round to scrape through the cut. Another Irishman, Graeme McDowell, who finished fifth behind Tiger Woods in Dubai on Sunday, shares second place with South Africa’s Hendrik Buhrmann.

NFL star dies after being shot

The National Football League’s (NFL) Sean Taylor, a star defensive player for the Washington Redskins, died on Tuesday after being shot at his home near Miami, local television stations in Washington reported. Taylor (24), who was the Redskins first pick in the 2004 draft, was shot in the leg, severing his femoral artery, during an apparent home robbery on Monday.

Westwood wins British Masters

Lee Westwood produced a brilliant final round of 65 to win the British Masters and become only the seventh player to reach £10-million prize money on the European Tour. Westwood (34) was in dazzling form at the Belfry on Sunday as his seven under par round gave him a five-stroke victory over Ian Poulter.
