Didintle Kole, 24, is a sales agent at First Federal Investments, where she runs direct marketing and sales through phone calls. The 24-year-old holds a National Diploma in Public Relations and Communication and an Advanced Diploma in Communication Management both from the University of Johannesburg, completed in 2021 and 2022, respectively. She was on the university’s Faculty of Humanities Dean’s List in 2020 and was part of the UJenius club in 2021, a vice chancellor’s initiative to acknowledge outstanding academic performances by undergraduate students. One of the most significant projects Didintle has run is The Postgrad Jumpstart, a campaign that sought to combat the job-scarcity mentality in undergraduate students as they prepared themselves for life after graduation. She organised a two-day webinar where speakers from different industries shared their journeys and insights with students. This project was run for two months, with informative content shared on the initiative’s Instagram page. “I want to see South Africa grow into a nation that grooms young people to be conscious of the kind of society they want to build and have the next generations live in. This includes working towards a better education system and creating endless career opportunities for young people to explore. South Africa has great potential to work towards mental freedom which will be the beginning of the breaking of all the other chains that are holding us back from being the kind of nation we desire,” Didintle says.

In 2019, I came to Johannesburg for the first time ever, an opportunity made possible by UJ. As I got to find my feet in the institution and the city, I got to see how limited to my small city I had allowed myself to be. I was not empowered to know there was life elsewhere, I was not empowered to believe life would work out for me elsewhere. Coming here was the beginning of a life that was bigger than what I could’ve dreamt of, as small as it may seem to the next person. I knew I wanted more, which is how I got to invest my heart and time in my education.

If you’re going to make it as an individual, and as a part of any space you’re ever going to occupy, you will have to look beyond the limitations before you.

I would want to see South Africa grow into a nation that grooms young people to be conscious of the kind of society they want to build and have the next generations live in. This includes working towards a better education system and creating endless career opportunities for young people to explore. South Africa has great potential to work towards mental freedom which will be the beginning of the breaking of all the other chains that are holding us back from being the kind of nation we desire.
