MPUMA RAP LIST GROWS

ANOTHER Mpumamlanga official has resigned over a corruption scandal after police accused him of over R1-million in thefts last week. Revenue services deputy director Willie Steenkamp was allowed to resign quietly from government last Monday after signing a confession that he stole at least R530000 from a provincial suspense account. He was formally charged with theft and corruption on Thursday and will be served with a restraining order later this week keeping him away from all government offices and staff. “We are also considering freezing his accounts and assets to recover the money he has admitted to stealing,” said the finance department’s legal advisor, Charles Mabaso, on Friday. He confirmed that investigators are still probing allegations that Steenkamp siphoned another R480000 out of a provincial vehicle licence revenue account.
