Computers For a New Sa

If the need for computers and software has contributed to the mind-boggling cost of the RDP, maybe the new finance minister can already look to making a few savings here and there: computer companies are lining up to give their support to training and development.

And it’s not just Microsoft, Lotus and Wordperfect, with their social responsibility programmes, and nor is it all high-profile activity. Applied Learning, part of the Advtech group, recently donated software worth R100 000 to the Centre for Local Governance to help in the training of local government officials, and R70 000 worth of training courses and videos to Zakeni Computing in the Western Cape to help disadvantaged people become computer literate.
