American interest in SA picks up

Acording to the Washington-based Investor Responsibility Research Center (IRRC) there are signs that United States business and investor interest in South Africa is growing.

A survey of 69 US pension funds and other institutional investors found that more than 50 percent were already investing in South Africa or were planning to invest there in the next 12 months.

Notably, US corporations are also increasing their profile in South Africa. As of this month, 183 US companies with direct investments or employees are based here, while US companies with non-equity ties, licensing, franchise or sales agreements totalled 498.

There are also 598 non-US multinational companies with direct investments in South Africa and 442 have sales or licensing agreements.
