A LEVEL two nuclear incident at the Koeberg nuclear power station on Friday, exposing Eskom workers to excessive doses of radiation, was caused by an instrument malfunction, the Council for Nuclear Safety said today which added that it was the second such incident in two months, and that “we will closely monitor Eskom’s working practices with a view to avoiding repetition of such events”.
Three workers were exposed to radiation after they entered an area declared safe by a malfunctioning radiation measuring instrument. They were, however, not affected, according to the Council.
