Ramsamy believes Cape Town has a good chance

THURSDAY, 1.00PM:

NATIONAL Olympic Committe of South Africa president Sam Ramsamy has high hopes that Cape Town will be named as host of the 2004 Olympics. He said inputs by President Nelson Mandela and Deputy President Thabo Mbeki could make a difference between winning or lossing the vote. Ramsamy was speaking at the unveiling of a new Nocsa logo in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Ramsamy said 67 of the 111 members of the International Olympic Committee had visited South Africa and 25 of those met Mandela. Ten others are due in South Africa in the next few weeks.

He said bringing the Olympic Games to Africa will be instrumental in taking the continent out of an era of darkness. He added that the Cape Town bid carries the support of all Africans.
