THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) received a massive boost on Tuesday when BP announced a sponsorhip deal worth R4,5-million for the next three years. The company will contribute R1,25-million this yaer, with the amount escalating by 10% each year.
BP were the sponsors of the BP Top Eight Cup for the past 25 years. “Due to the restructuring of the PSL the BP Top Eight Cup fell away, but we were keen to maintain our involvement in soccer,” said BP advertising and brand manager Richard Smuts. “And the PSL is the perfect vehicle whereby we can communicate our product to the customer.”
PSL general manager Irfan Bux welcomed the sponsorship and said: “There will be spin-offs for both parties. We plan to use this sponsorship as a marketing tool. This will be the forerunner of other such deals for the PSL.” He said BP will be the petrol supplier to the PSL.
