Bacher’s proud giveaway

TUESDAY, 9.30AM:

UNITED Cricket Board UCB MD Ali Bacher said he will give the South African cricket team, captained by Hansie Cronje a bonus of R500 000 for winning the Test match against Pakistan on Monday.

South Africa, who beat Pakistan by 53 runs, became the third country to beat Pakistan at home after West Indies in 1980 and Sri Lanka in 1995.

Bacher said in terms of the UCB contracts with the players, each player who played on Monday, will earn twice his normal match fee of R11 250 – which means that each player will pocket R25 000.

“From our point of view, we could not possibly be happier to hand over this money. The win was a fantastic achievement and the players deserve every cent they have earned,” he said. “The UCB is very proud of the side.”
