HOLIDAY ROAD DEATHS TOP 414 The road death toll since the beginning of Christmas holdiays on December 1 had climbed to 414 by Monday morning, according to Arrive Alive. Although the figure is lower than for the corresponding period last year, it is expected to climb further, with most fatalities expected between Christmas and New Year. Most accidents were reported in the Eastern Cape with 79, compared to 70 in Gauteng, 65 in KwaZulu-Natal, 51 in the Western Cape and 18 in North-West.

SAPO FIRES 222 FOR THEFT THE SA Post Office has dismissed 222 employees for committing fraud or theft since April this year, MD Frank Touwen said on Monday. He said the post office’s anti-crime campaign is starting to bear fruit. “While only a small percentage of employees are guilty of such offences, they will be fired and will not be allowed to tarnish the company’s image,” he said.
