LUYT CALLS FOR CHAIN GANGS

HARD labour in prisons should be reintroduced, Federal Alliance leader Louis Luyt said in Pretoria on Tuesday. He told a public meeting at University of Pretoria that prisoners forfeited all rights they might have when they committed crimes against society. “Convicts should be used to build houses, hospitals and schools. We will force them to do the cleaning of road sides, towns and townships,” Luyt said. Luyt also called for the death penalty to be reinstated for serious crimes, such as rape and murder. He also said the African National Congress’ candidate list showed it was not serious about fighting crime.
