JUDGE Deon van Zyl of the Cape High Court has been appointed a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which has its head office in Lausanne, Switzerland. His appointment was confirmed at a recent meeting of the board of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport. Van Zyl, a former president of Athletics South Africa, will be the first South African to serve at the court, which has 145 members from 46 countries. The court is independent of any sports organisation and was created in 1983 with a view to resolving legal disputes in the realm of sport.
