WINNIE MADIKIZELA-MANDELA is suing her her ex-husband President Nelson Mandela in a dispute over ownership of a house they shared in Soweto in the 1960s, the president’s lawyer Ismail Ayob confirmed on Monday. Business Day cited on Monday court papers in which Madikizela-Mandela claims she is the rightful owner of the house in Vilakazi Street, Orlando West, which Mandela recently gave to the Soweto Heritage Trust. Ayob said Madikizela-Mandela served the papers on Mandela, the trust and the Soweto council, which she claimed sold the house to Mandela without considering her legal right of tenure. Ayob confirmed the president will oppose the application as he considers himself the rightful owner of the property. The case was due to go to court next month, but was postponed because not all parties were available. A new date for the case has yet to be set.
