THE Auckland Blues appear close to self-destruction ahead of their match with the neutered Northern Bulls. Coach Jed Rowlands denies that his players are rebelling against his tactics and leadership, but reports from New Zealand indicate otherwise. The Herald reported that players met in secret for the third time on Sunday, and called in team officials. Players are reportedly upset over Rowlands’ training methods and the lack of cohesion among the coaching staff. Rowlands has been fingered for outbursts and invective against other staff and players, leading to degradation of morale. The coach claims any spats have been “blown out of proportion” and that the spirit in camp is good.
This turmoil can only help the winless Bulls, who also got a fright when Riaan Potgieter walked off witha shoulder injury. Danie van Schalkwyk will replace him.
