ANOTHER RENAISSANCE

PRESIDENT Thabo Mbeki and Organisation of African Unity secretary-general Salim Ahmed Salim will address a conference on the theme of an African revival in Johannesburg in October, organisers said on Thursday. Former South African and Tanzanian presidents Nelson Mandela and Julius Nyerere, as well as UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, are among those who have been invited to participate in the three-day conference, expected to draw 1200 delegates. It will seek to institutionalise the concept of an African revival, organisers said, notably by drafting a “constitution” for it. Chairman of the organising committee, Thami Mazwai, said the main objective of the African Renaissance initiative “is to define African development from an African perspective and come up with solutions to African problems.”
