WESTERN Cape traffic officials mounted a protest on the N1 freeway outside Cape Town during the morning-rush hour on Monday to support their salary increase demands, SABC radio news reported. The officials would gather between 6am and 8am at a spot on the freeway about 10km outside the city, the SABC said. The protest was planned to coincide with the opening of schools in the Western Cape. The officials are demanding a 10% salary increase and are also protesting the withdrawal of a meal allowance.
