MOZAMBIQUE PROTESTS DEPORTATIONS

MOZAMBIQUE has made a formal protest to Zimbabwe over an exercise to deport hundreds of illegal Mozambican immigrants, the Maputo government said on Wednesday. At least 600 Mozambicans were dumped across the border in central Manica province on Friday, Foreign Minister Leornado Simao said. A further 400 illegal immigrants have been identified for deportation. Mozambique is currently negotiating with neighbouring South Africa over similar deportation exercises. South African police round up illegal Mozambicans, transport them in their hundreds in trains and dump them at the border town of Ressano Garcia every week.
