FOUR IN DEVASTATING FIRE

AT least four people died and five were seriously injured and hundreds left homeless after a veld fire ravaged through their homes in the Mount Frere and Tsolo areas of the Eastern Cape on Monday, police reported. Superintendent Nondumiso Jafta on Tuesday said about 600 houses in the area had been burnt down. More than a thousand carcasses of sheep and cattle were strewn over 40km of scorched earth. Firefighters said on Tuesday the fear that the strong winds will reignite the blaze.
