ARMED MEN FREE JAILED SUSPECT

MORE than 60 men armed with pangas and knobkieries stormed the Coffee Bay police station in the Transkei on Wednesday. They freed a man being held for the possession of an an illegal arms cache. They also stole the confiscated weapons. Police had arrested the man earlier during the search of a hut in the Mount Pagati area yielded a large quantity of unlicensed guns that included AK-47 and G3 assault rifles. Umtata police officials rushed to Coffee Bay after the brazen snatch and rounded up more than 60 armed men from a local anti-stock theft forum called Isolomzi. They retrieved the weapons and re-arrested the suspects.
