EIGHT children and three adults were killed in Mpumalanga when a truck ploughed into three cars parked at the side of a national road, police said on Sunday. Ten people died at the scene of the accident late on Saturday near Middelburg, about 120 kilometres east of Pretoria. A five-year-old boy with multiple fractures and a head wound died later in hospital. The large truck hit a small pickup truck, carrying several passengers, that had broken down and was parked in the emergency lane of the road, police said. The impact crushed the pickup and forced it into another two cars — the drivers of which had stopped to assist repair the stranded vehicle. Bodies were scattered across the road, a police spokeswoman said.
