NIGERIAN striker Kanu said he will sign a new four-year contract with English Premiership side Arsenal.
Kanu has agreed the deal, thought to be around $46000 a week, and will sign up when he returns from African Nations Cup duty in his home country. The 23-year-old striker said: “It’s finalised and I know everything will be OK when I get back. “Everything is solved and there are no more problems. I’m happy with the deal. It’s for four years” he told the Daily Mail.
Originally the Gunners vowed to make a stand against escalating wages in the Premiership, but after talks between Highbury vice-chairman David Dein and Kanu’s agents the player appears to have landed the deal he was after.
Kanu, who has scored 10 Premiership goals this season — including a memorable hat-trick in the 3-2 triumph at Chelsea in October — played a major part in securing a 4-2 win for co-hosts Nigeria in their Africa Nations Cup opener on Sunday.
Kanu could be away from Highbury for another three weeks, although that depends on whether Nigeria progress through to the final of the tournament, scheduled for February 13.
