SQUID FISHING BAN EXTENDED

MOROCCO will impose a three-month ban from February 1 on the fishing of cephalapods to protect the existing stock and to render the industry more profitable. The ban’s period is being extended by one month compared to previous years. In the previous years the ban period started on March 1 and ended on April 30, but the Moroccan government’s concern for its cephalopod stock and the weak world prices have led them to start the ban a month earlier. Morocco exports most of its squid catch to Japan.
