DR CONGO REBELS BEHEADING VILLAGERS

REBELS and their Rwandan military allies beheaded 12 women in an attack on a village in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a Kinshasa daily reported on Tuesday citing a local medical source. The massacre took place on January 5 in the village of Kasika in Mwenga territory in Sud-Kivu province, according to La Reference Plus, which said details were given by a hospital worker. “The bodies of the unfortunate women were recovered shortly after the crime with baskets still strapped to their backs, while their heads had been carried off by the executioners,” the paper said. On December 20, a group of associations in Sud-Kivu province stated that 15 women had been buried alive by DRC rebels who had accused them of “having links with the Mai-Mai.”
