OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Wednesday 10.00am.
THE suspended chief executive officer of the Premier Soccer League Joe Ndhlela allegedly bought clothing worth R1,3-million while appointing himself and the PSL accountant as signatories to a new PSL bank account.
This is according to a charge sheet tabled at the PSL’s special tribunal on Tuesday, The Star reports.
According to the newspaper Ndhlela’s lawyer Mafika Sihlali, who accompanied him to the hearing at Arbitration House in Sandton, was barred from the proceedings. The tribunal’s chairperson, Irvin Khoza, said the hearing is an ”internal matter”.
According to the charge sheet, Ndhlela allegedly informed a number of clubs that they were entitled to receive sponsored suits at no cost to the clubs, although he knew that no such sponsorship existed.
Members of 13 PSL clubs received suits supplied by Phil Jones Setshedi Clothing cc and a soccer administration body was invoiced for an amount of R1364580.
The charge sheet states that R682290 was paid to the Setshedi’s company. Setshedi is a former soccer player and a former assistant coach of Bafana Bafana.
The paper reports that Ndhlela has also been charged for contracting Khensani Consulting Agency to perform an evaluation of the PSL’s staff without the authority of the board of governors.
He is also alleged to have:
* paid a certain Mr de Klerk R70000 for the evaluation; Committed the PSL to a contractual arrangement with Diversity Management & Production without the approval and authority of the board, thereby incurring a debt of R28000 for the PSL;
* used facilities of an American Express card to make unauthorised payments on behalf of family members and others;
* failed to make full disclosure regarding the termination of his services by previous employer Transnet for serious allegations of dishonesty.
The hearing was postponed, to a date to be announced at a later stage, to allow Ndhlela time to prepare his case, the paper said.
