JUDGMENT has been reserved by the Pretoria High Court until Friday on whether loose-forward AJ Venter is contactually binded to the Golden Lions, or whether he is entitled to play his rugby for the Sharks. The Lions applied for a High Court order declaring that Venter cannot play for any other side, and that they be allowed to match the Sharks’ offer. Venter denied signing with the Lions, saying that the side could not match the R600000 and other benefits the Sharks offered. Venter added that Gauteng’s rotation system will result in his playing fewer matches, thereby affecting his chances to secure a place in the Springbok team. Venter also said he believes that his negative relationship with the Lions’ coach Laurie Mains also makes it difficult for him to represent the side. According to Venter Mains regards him as overpaid and lacking in essential skills.
