DOCKERS in Ivory Coast’s main port Abidjan lifted a wildcat strike threat on Wednesday after the ruling military junta made clear that it would not tolerate any more stoppages. Dockers leaders and senior government officials said the dockers, who were threatened with arrest if they ignore the warning, have agreed to negotiate via their recognised trades unions. The strike organisers, who had expressed dissatisfaction with their union representatives, had threatened a five-day stoppage from Wednesday. The port was working normally on Wednesday.
