PALAZZOLO A “FLIGHT RISK”, COURT TOLD

THE Cape Town Regional Court has given alleged Sicilian mafia kingpin Vito Palazzolo seven days to give reasons why his South African citizenship should not be cancelled. Palazzolo was re-arrested on the weekend on fraud and perjury charges relating to his application for South African citizenship in 1994. He was arrested in November on the same charges, but released on bail of R500000. The Department of Home Affairs notified him last Friday that his South African citizenship will be cancelled. The Directorate for Public Prosecutions has launched an application to have Palazzolo’s bail annulled on grounds that he has become a “flight risk”.
