LOMU LOSES APPEAL

JONAH Lomu failed on Tuesday to have a two-match ban for a dangerous tackle overturned. All Black winger Lomu, cited after a Super 12 match between the Wellington Hurricanes and New South Wales Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday, said he was disappointed with the verdict. Lomu went to the Australian Rugby Union’s headquarters hopeful of a positive result, and said he regretted what had happened on the field and felt he had been given a fair hearing. “I’m not a person that takes anything lying down and we did what we could,” Lomu said. Lomu was sin-binned in the third minute for spearing Waratah centre Nathan Grey into the turf. He was later ordered off for a deliberate knock-on when NSW seemed certain to score just before halftime. Lomu said he would fly back to New Zealand, but is planning to go to South Africa on Friday to join up with the Hurricanes and support his team in their last two Super 12 round-robin games.
