THE attempted rape charges against Stormers and Springbok rugby player Robbie Kempson were dropped on Thursday after Western Cape director of public prosecutions Frank Kahn declined to prosecute. After careful consideration of the evidence, Kahn said there was no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution. Kempson was arrested by Claremont detectives at his home on Sunday and released on R2000 bail after his lawyer arranged a special court hearing on Sunday night. He was arrested after a 17-year-old schoolgirl laid the charge that he had attempted to rape her early on Sunday morning. She and her brother, a friend of the player, spent Saturday night at Kempson’s house celebrating the Stormers’ win over the Highlanders.
