JUDGMENT EXPECTED IN FAIRHEAD TRIAL

JUDGMENT is expected to be handed downin the Port Alfred High Court in the trial of brothers Bongani and Zolani Tom and a 17-year-old. The men are charged with murdering Cape Town businesswoman Brenda Fairhead and her daughter Kia, 11, in the Keiskamma Pass in January. State prosecutor Malherbe Marais on Monday in court called for the strongest possible sentence for the accused. Marais called on the court to convict Bongani Tom for the rape of Fairhead, and to convict the youth for the indecent assault of Kia. He added that the rape of Fairhead was “the strongest motivation for the killings”. He also said the three should be convicted of the crimes by common purpose.
