WINE DRINKERS LIVE LONGER

A NEW study shows that wine is the healthiest of alcoholic beverages and moderate wine drinkers live longer than teetotallers do, the Stockholm newspaper Aftonbladet has reported. A half bottle of wine per week halves the risk of dying of cardiovascular diseases, according to a dissertation presented by the medical doctor and researcher Holger Theobald. “It seems as though wine drinkers live a healthier life than other people do,” Theobald was quoted as saying. Theobald said the reason is that wine contains antidioxants, also found in fruit and vegetables, which have a beneficial effect on the vascular system and the blood, but more than half a bottle per week increases the risk of a higher mortality rate.
