Cape teenager charged with murder

TWO teenage girls from a youth reformatory in Wellington appeared in court on Monday after a security guard was stabbed to death, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

Boland police representative Captain William Reid said the girls were charged in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court with murder and malicious damage to property respectively.

Four girls from the reformatory went on a drinking spree at a shebeen over the weekend. After it was discovered that the girls were missing, the security guard went in search of them and brought them back.

The teenagers, who were apparently intoxicated, began arguing with the guard and one of them, a 15-year-old, allegedly produced a knife and stabbed him in the back and chest. He died before the paramedics got to the scene.

When the police arrived, another of the girls allegedly threw a brick at a police van, cracking a window.

Both cases were postponed and the girls are being kept at the reformatory. – Sapa
