PETROL PRICE HIKED BY 6 CENTS

THE price of petrol is to increase by six cents per litre from next Wednesday, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday morning. However, the price of diesel with a three percent sulphur content will go down by nine cents per litre and diesel with a five percent sulphur content will be decreased with eight cents per litre, the statement said. Illuminating paraffin will be five cents per litre cheaper. The department added that during the period under review, the average international price of petrol increased, whilst that of diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased. “The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 28 January 2001 to 25 February 2002 was 11,4927 compared to 11,7092 during the previous period,” the statement read. – Sapa
