2,3 MILLION REGISTERED FOR S-LEONE POLLS

SIERRA Leone’s electoral body said on Wednesday that nearly 2,3-million voters have been provisionally registered for May’s presidential and legislative elections. A representative for the National Election Commission (NEC) said a list of the 2,276,518 voters would be displayed at registration centres throughout the country from March 9 to 13 for “verification and objection purposes by members of the public.” The poll marks the first ballot in the west African state since the end of a 10-year bloody civil war. The NEC had projected a figure of 2.7 million voters before the registration process began on January 24. In the last elections in 1997, around two million Sierra Leonians registered as voters. – AFP
