The United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development, acting as the preparatory committee for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, will open its third session (PrepCom III]) at the United Nations headquarters in New York on March 25.
PrepCom III will consider the chairperson’s paper transmitted from the commission’s second session (PrepCom II) together with other relevant inputs to the preparatory process, including:
The report of the United Nations Environment Programme’s governing council/ Global Ministerial Environment Forum on International Environmental Governance.
The outcome of International Conference Financing for Development and other additional inputs.
An input on “sustainable development governance” to be prepared by the vice-chairpersons of the PrepCom from Nigeria and Sweden through an open-ended informal consultative process.
During PrepCom III negotiations will come to an agreement on the text of the draft of the “first” final document of the summit and recommendations for future action.
