Dragnet KZN cane-fields for cash robbers

A MANHUNT is underway in sugar cane fields near the Mtunzini toll plaza along the N2 highway in KwaZulu-Natal for a gang of robbers who attacked and robbed a security guard vehicle on Friday morning, police said.

Captain Vish Naidoo said men in four vehicles forced a Fidelity Guard van off the N2 about two kilometres north of the plaza around 8.30am.

Between 10 and 15 armed men held up the security guards and took from their van several cash boxes containing an undisclosed amount of money.

Several shots were fired, but it was not yet clear if anybody was wounded. The robbers fled with their loot.

The Mtunzini police were immediately contacted and in the ensuing search two of the getaway vehicles, a BMW and another car, were found. – Sapa
